We are so excited to have Melissa Flores, beauty blogger of SuperGlamNews.com, as our Friday focus this week! We love discovering fashion finds from our tastemakers near and far, but as we all know, an outfit is only as great as the makeup on top! Melissa offers some awesome insight to her beauty world like, “if you don’t take care of your skin, there’s not much makeup can do.” Ok! Enough chit chat, lets get down to business!

GTIO: Being from New Jersey, did you have a lot of access and exposure to fashion and beauty in NYC? 

MF: I was born in NYC and lived there for most of my childhood. I loved that everyone’s style was so different in the city but felt like more of a tomboy then. It wasn’t until my family moved to New Jersey that I began to experiment with beauty and style.

GTIO: What sparked your passion for beauty?

MF:  I’ve had a love for beauty products since a young age. I would go to the drugstore and buy various lip glosses to try. I loved telling friends which products are worth it and which ones weren’t. Beauty is so much fun! You can have a glamorous look one day and a natural one the next. My favorite part of going out is getting ready.

GTIO: What is the most important part of your makeup routine and why?

MF: Before I even start applying makeup, I must apply a toner. And it’s imperative that I wash my makeup off every night (no matter how tired I am). If you don’t take care of your skin there’s not much makeup can do. 

GTIO: What product could you not live without and why?

MF: Bronzer! The right bronzer will give you a healthy glow,  and I love having a tanned complexion all year round.

GTIO: Sephora is one of our official brand partners on the site. Were you excited to add them as your personal stylist and receive beauty feedback from professionals?

MF: When I first downloaded GO TRY IT ON, I immediately added Sephora as one of my stylists! They carry the best of the best products and receiving feedback from their professionals is a huge honor!

GTIO: How long have you been a member of GO TRY IT ON?

MF: For a couple of months now. I bought the iPhone in August and soon after I started looking for some fun, girly apps. In my search, I came across GO TRY IT ON, and the bright pink color caught my attention. I was instantly hooked. 

GTIO: On GO TRY IT ON, which do you do more, give an opinion or get one and why?

MF: I think it’s pretty even. I’m a stylist on the app to over 200 members. I love it because it exposes me to so many different styles and I get to share my style advice. It’s equally as fun when they share their opinion on the looks I post. As soon as I upload a new image I get instant advice and votes on my look. 

GTIO: We see a lot of nail polish uploads on the site and in the last year or two, nails have become so popular in the fashion world. Why do you think this is and how do you feel about it?

MF: I love seeing the nail designs members upload. I think nail trends have become so popular because it’s yet another creative outlet, sort of an accessory. You want your nails to go with your outfit, and they can also give your look that extra something it needed. There are so many creative designs that members share on the app and I always leave with new ideas. 

GTIO: What excites you most about fashion and what are you inspired by?

MF: Fashion is so much fun because it’s always changing. I love playing with different looks depending on my mood. Basics are just as important as having several pieces in your closet that set you apart.
